Hello and welcome to the Central Wyoming Astronomical Society. The Central Wyoming Astronomical Society or CWAS for short is a small non-profit organization that came into existence about 20 years ago. It consists of about twenty people currently and slowly growing. It started out in the mid 80’s when back then, was a very small group of people had a slight interest in astronomy. They talked it over and eventually CWAS was born. We have been around ever since.

    On the second Tuesday of every month from September to May, we meet at the Casper Planetarium to conduct our monthly business. Also we generally have a guest speaker either arranged from Casper College, or one of our own members. The topics have varied between geology and how it relates to astronomy to how greek, roman, and egyptian mythologies relate to astronomy. We also have done several community service viewings. Such as helping hospice to raise money.  Or helping the boy scouts of America earn their astronomy badges, but our most active aspect of our organization are our public star viewings. Here, our members gladly set up their equipment, so that the public can admire what is in the sky. We can see anything from galaxies millions of light years away, to terrestrial objects like planets and comets. We even have a telescope that is specially designed for the sun! Through this telescope, we can see what the sun REALLY looks like, in all its glorious beauty.

    If you want to attend one of our meetings, they are always free to the public. We meet every second Tuesday at 7 pm and the topic of discussion will be listed on the events calendar. If you wish to become a member of CWAS, we collect dues in March which are 15 dollars a person or 25 for a whole family. Our meetings are an excellent way to learn how to use your telescope if you are having trouble with it. So bring it on by and let us teach you the skies. Since we are a non-profit organization, our services are always free of charge.
