The Central Wyoming Astronomical Society or CWAS
for short is a small non-profit organization that came
into existence in the mid 1980's. We are a small
group of people who started out with a small interest
in astronomy. Eventually we learned of CWAS and
became members. Individually we all have different
professions and different hobbies, but as a group of
people, what we have in common is amateur
astronomy.
During the spring and summer months,
our organization will organize public
observations. At these observations,
some of our club members will allow
the public to look through their
telescopes. We have seen objects
such as Nebulae, star clusters,
planets, and galaxies.
We also have a solar telescope which
we also will allow the public to look
through. This particular telescope
allows the viewer to see what the sun
really looks like. You will see
Prominences, Plages, Filaments, and
occasionally a CME or coronal mass
ejection. CME's are the cause of the
northern and southern lights.
On the second Tuesday of every
month from September to May, we
meet at the Casper Planetarium. At
these meeting, we organize future
observations and talk about the new
developments in space. We have had
guest speakers at our meetings as well
as presentations about various topics
from our own members.
We have helped boy scouts and girl
scouts earn astronomy badges. We
have held telescope workshops as well
as special observation sessions for
events such as lunar eclipses, solar
eclipses, asteroid observations, and
many more.
Our meetings at the planetarium are
free to anyone who wants to attend. If
you wish to become a member, we ask
a fee of 15 dollars per year per
person, or 25 for a whole family. The
fees help the club to buy new
equipment for our observations. You
can find out when we will meet again
on the events calendar as well as the
topic for the evening.
PLEASE HELP OUR ORGANIZATION TO GROW BY MAKING A DONATION. YOU CAN FIND THE DONATION TAB ON THE HOME PAGE JUST BELOW THE NAVIGATION BAR.
